This blog is about life.
When parental roles reverse.
About the journey of Dementia.
Being a caregiver.
It’s about love.
My Dad was the hardest working man I know! I was so very fortunate to have walked alongside him on his journey with Dementia.
I moved to the farm about 3 years ago to take care of Dad after he was diagnosed with Dementia. I wanted more than anything for him to be able to stay on the Farm for as long as possible…which he did. He took his final breath here, which is what he would have wanted.
As Dad’s dementia progressed, the stories of his life growing up and his farming years all faded slowly away. Totally gone. Collecting and preserving those stories before they are lost is the heart of This Old Cowgirl.
The Legacy of family farms and ranches is what I am passionate about. We need to gather the stories of how our farms and ranches came to be. The stories of hard times as well as the good times. When one of our farmers or ranchers passes away, all those stories, and the answers to our questions are gone. Those stories are invaluable as that legacy is what makes us who we are.
This Old Cowgirl is the story — my journey as Mom ( & Grandma!), Daughter, Christian, former Caregiver, Father-honorer, Farm Restorer and Cow Lover…You truly are never too old to pursue dreams!
